Social contribution and our Group are inextricably linked. We firmly believe that businesses have a responsibility to give back to society.
Community investment and Education
Our campaign and short documentaries series «Έχεις τη δύναμη» contributed to charities through targeted donations, as well as the fulfilment of hardship requests. Moreover, Hellenic Bank launched its ‘Jumpstart’ Scholarships Scheme which provides support to university students in need. It also supported the enhancement of financial education in primary schools in co-operation with the Cyprus Banks Association and Junior Achievement, the ‘Youth Action Day 2019’, provided children of vulnerable families throughout Cyprus with brand new school supplies and participated in Career Fairs organised by local and international universities.
We support vulnerable groups
Hellenic Bank supports the activities of organisations and groups whose aim is to help ease the suffering of vulnerable sections of the population. We have been supporting, for several years, the humanitarian institution of TELETHON and the work of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics. We engaged in the SMILE campaign and developed, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture, the National Strategy against School Bullying. Hellenic Bank was also the main sponsor of the Cyprus Breast Health Forum and the ‘Movember’ charity event which raises awareness on men’s health issues and the ‘Miniature Horse Therapy’, an innovative project offering ‘horse healing’ services to children with disabilities and other health problems.
We provide financial support to social organisations
Every year, our Group financially supports various institutions and organisations engaged in charitable work. The financial support of Hellenic Bank helps implement projects that improve the health and well-being of our fellow citizens. The following organisations have benefited, amongst others, from our long-standing support: The Cyprus Red Cross, Hope for Children, Sophia Foundation, Elpida Foundation, PASYKAF, Europa Donna, UNICEF, the Anti-Cancer Society, Thermokoitida Agapis, social grocery stores and a substantial number of other associations, societies and NGOs that meet the stringent criteria we have set for this purpose.
Culture / Environment / Sport / Research
Over time, Hellenic Bank has been supporting in diverse ways pioneering museums, cultural productions, exhibitions, publications and events, theatre performances and specific arts, such as engraving. At the same time, the Group acknowledges that our environment is under threat and that modern organisations have an obligation to help address the problem. In an attempt to mitigate its environmental footprint, the Group is committed to adopting and implementing the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development agenda, and has drawn an Environmental Policy, with actions including amongst others the following:
- Implementation of energy, water and paper saving systems
- Creation of energy friendly buildings / branches (through the Green Offices Program, environmental targets and action plans are implemented in the participating buildings / branches)
- Certification of our Head Offices with the international environmental quality mark Green Key
- Recertification of the operations of the Bank with the ISO 50001 Energy Management System
- Active participation in environmental and voluntary actions, such as Let’s Do It Cyprus and tree-planting
- Long-standing cooperation with Ecological Schools, aimed at raising environmental awareness amongst students.
We constantly invest in our people, promoting staff engagement and enhance career development. In 2019 we launched the HB Skill Development Lab and the Credit Academy which focuses on the enhancement of skills and the improvement of customer experience. We also created a three pillar Well-being Plan to promote mental and physical health in the workplace. Volunteering is an integral part of our Organisation and our staff participates in blood drives, charity bazaars, reforestations all over Cyprus, participated in ‘Let’s Do It Cyprus’ and have competed in corporate marathons for charitable causes.
