Restoring 100 million trees.

We can do it!

Could you imagine a world without trees. We can’t.

It is for that reason that we once again join forces with Mastercard’s Priceless Planet Coalition, for a more sustainable planet.

Hellenic Bank is the first Bank in Cyprus to join the Priceless Planet Coalition, an environmental initiative under the auspices of Mastercard, that was created for the purpose of coordinating the environmental actions of consumers, financial institutions, merchants and cities, so as to enhance the effects and the positive impact of their actions, especially in terms of the restoration of the forests. As a first step, the initiative has pledged to plant 100 million trees. Collaborators in this activation are also expert foresters from Conservation International and the World Resources Institute.

At Hellenic Bank, the protection of the environment is at the forefront of its every operation which implements sustainable practices, finances "green" companies and participates in a series of initiatives and green actions.

2023

Under Mastercard’s Priceless Planet Coalition Initiative, Hellenic Bank’s local contribution for the year 2023 was through the project “Holistic Water Management of the Pedagogical Academy National Forest Park”.

The project was a joint initiative of the Environment Commissioner’s Office and the Department of Forests and was partially funded by Hellenic Bank through Mastercard’s Priceless Planet Coalition Initiative.

The effects of climate change were evident in the park with the recording of massive tree drying. This phenomenon was mainly due to the low rainfall in the area, which had subjected the trees to prolonged water stress, resulting in them being exhausted, secondarily attacked by insects, and drying out. Through the project, a permanent irrigation system was installed in the park, through which water was provided to the park’s trees through proper management of liquid waste, distribution of water without waste, energy and water saving through the use of modern technology.

2022

Planting of 1000 trees in Tochni Village as part of the riverbed restoration project of the Tochni River in the center of the village. The planting was done in collaboration with the Cyprus Forest Association and the Department of Forests, under the auspices of the Commissioner of Environment.
